Victorian Assembly

Two matters decided at the Presbyterian Church’s Annual Assembly last week of particular relevance to Canterbury Presbyterian Church were:

The reappointment of Rev. Dr. Felix Chung as Lecturer in Missiology, Evangelism, Cross-Cultural and Research Methods at the PTC, Victoria for a further term of 7 years, and the granting of the Petition from the Presbytery of Melbourne East authorising the Ministry Development Committee, at its discretion and subject to its guidelines, to provide a cross-cultural subsidy grant to the Canterbury Japanese congregation for a further 4 years.

Petition in Support of SRI in Schools

There is a petition to the Legislative Assembly of Victoria noting the support in our community for the role of Special Religious Instruction in Government schools and requesting the Lower House of our State Parliament to affirm the commitment of all parties and members to ensuring that SRI remains part of our school system under the current arrangements of 30 minutes per week during normal class time. If you would be prepared to sign the petition, copies are in the EAST PORCH OF THE CHURCH. TODAY (18th Oct) IS THE FINAL DAY FOR SIGNATURES! [Expired]
